Are You Secretly Questioning God’s Goodness?

Have you ever questioned God’s goodness?

Maybe you secretly wondered how anyone can really know?

You say an understandable parallel or metaphor would be nice.

Well, as you wish.

God is our good Father

Or which one of you, if his son asks him for bread, will give him a stone?
Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a serpent? If you then, who are evil, know
how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in
heaven give good things to those who ask him. Matthew 7:9-11

In the passage of scripture above Jesus makes a parallel between men as father’s and God as our Heavenly Father.

I believe Jesus’ intent was to show the Father’s goodness and that we can get a glimpse of our heavenly father from our earthly fathers.

That even though the glimpse we get is a very far cry from who God is in His perfectness,  we can get a small glimpse of how he relates and thinks about us as His children.

God created us and we can perform acts of kindness. How much more the one who created us.

God is our Father. And not just our Father, but our good Father.

Loved just because

This is a pretty awesome thought when I think about how I feel about my kids.

I can look at them and love them even when they are just playing and doing things that they love to do.

They don’t have to do anything special. They don’t have to do something that impresses the neighbors or anybody else.

They were born and I loved them from the start.

Just the fact that they are my kids makes me love them with a love I can’t even explain.

I love them just because they are mine.

How much more will God

So if I, in my imperfectness,  can feel a love like that towards my kids, how much more a God who is perfect and who does more then feel love, but is love.

So when times get tough, when people let you down,or nothing seems to be going the way you planned, remind yourself that God loves you.

Even if you earthly father hasn’t been much to talk about, you can trust that your heavenly Father will not let you down and is a giver of good gifts.

So start asking

Don’t be afraid to go to your heavenly father and ask.

Bring your needs and worries to Him because He cares.

Gut Check:

Are you not trusting in God because you doubt His goodness?

Is your view of God that of a Father or a less intimate relationship?

What are you lacking because you are not asking?
