How Jesus Is Killing Us

I don’t know if you ever realized this, but Jesus is killing us.

Maybe take a moment and you can remember some of those sharp death pains. It’s almost like parts of your flesh are being ripped off. Or you feel like your heart is being jerked out of your chest.

Well, those are death pains.

And when we come to the investigation site you will find our “old us” laying there.

So I thank God that Jesus is killing us! Listen to Paul as he expresses this event.

Galatians 2:20 I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me.
And the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.

Romans 6:6-8  We know that our old self was crucified with him in order that the body of sin might be brought to nothing, so that we would no longer be enslaved to sin.  For one who has died has been set free from sin. Now if we have died with Christ, we believe that we will also live with him.

2 Corinthians 5:17  Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!

The beauty of Christianity is that we are not Just better versions of ourselves. We didn’t just go through some rehab program and come out the other side with some crafty quotes and a 10 step process on how to live better (even though this is how we act sometimes). No, we are completely new. Who we used to be has been killed – crucified with Christ and no longer has anything to do with us. Now, we try and pick the dead body and live through it time and time again. But it’s not who we are anymore.

And the life we live now is through Christ himself. This is amazing because all the things we keep saying we can’t do, we actually can. We can because Jesus did it while he was here on earth and now he lives in us and so we can do because he can do it.

Jesus didn’t sin, so we can live a life of continual victory ver sin.

Jesus lived as one with the father, so we can live in unending communion with our heavenly father.

Jesus lived sacrificially, so we can stop building our own little kingdom and start building the Kingdom of God.

Jesus left heaven in order to come to us (he is the ultimate Missionary), so we can leave our comfort and safety and go to those who need to hear the good news of a new life in Christ Jesus.

Jesus is killing for our good. He is taking away all the sinful flesh and giving us himself. Did you ever think you could get so excited about dying? Neither did I. But I am.

So let’s take pleasure in dying to self and start living Christ through us.
