Why Uncertainty Shouldn’t Make You Question Everything

Who is holding your future?

Feeling uncertainty about the new year?

Predictions, forecasts, and educated guesses pop up everywhere about how things will look, but no one really knows.

The writer of Psalm 73:26 Expresses their confidence is, ” My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.”

The psalmist isn’t going to settle with putting his trust is something.

He is going to rest in a someone. And not just any someone, he is trusting in the God of all creation. The same God who told Jeremiah in Jeremiah 29:11, “For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.”

So you might not be able to eliminate the uncertainty you feel about your future but you can be secure in the arms of the one who holds the future.

I am or I might be?

Are you holding on to an “I am” or an “I might be”?

  • John 8:12 Again Jesus spoke to them, saying, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”
  • John 6:35 Jesus said to them, “I am the bread of life; he who comes to Me will not hunger, and he who believes in Me will never thirst.
  • John 14:6Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.

However exclusive this may sound, I’m glad that Jesus states the truth about who He is because it gives me the assurance that I need. If Jesus would have said I might be the savior of the world, that is not much to hold on to.

But there was no doubt and ambiguity in His words and no shakiness in His voice when He declared who He is. My assurance in Jesus blows away my uncertainty in the future.

No Uncertainty Here

I don’t know what your failures,  disappointments or regrets are from this year. And I don’t know what your fears and anxieties are for the new year.

What I do know is that right now you can base your life on something sure. You don’t have to let your uncertainty make you question everything.

1 Corinthians 15:115 Let me remind you, brothers and sisters, of the good news that I preached to you when we first met. It’s the essential message that you have taken to heart, the central story you now base your life on;
