Do you love being able to come and go as you please?
Are you a chill person until someone tries to tell you what do with your time?
Does anxiety come gushing over you when you think of long term commitments?
Is something exciting until you think you might have to stay there for an extended period of time?
If your answer is yes, you might be worshiping the God of freedom.
What is Worship
These are some definitions found on Merriam Webster’s website.
When you worship something you show it honor devotion with your actions. Worship is not just saying you value or revere something.
It’s what you do that actually shows that you are passionate about something.
Worshiping the god of Freedom
So what do your actions say you worship.
Have you chosen to not do something you felt God calling you to out of fear of commitment?
Or in other words, out of fear of displacing your god of freedom
James 2:18 But someone will say, “You have faith and I have works.” Show me your faith apart from your works, and I will show you my faith by my works.
You need to worship the TRUE God of REAL Freedom
It’s easy to think you have freedom because you have the option to do whatever you want.
But that might not be the whole story.
There are too many people I know that have made an eternally significant impact because of their commitment to stick with the mission and purpose God gave them for the long haul.
Yes, they would probably have made an impact if they only stayed there for a short period of time, but not like the exponential impact they are seeing because they have chosen faithfulness over the long run.
There is a real God of Freedom
This god of freedom that we have created promises fulfillment but it can’t come through on its offer.
You might get that lifestyle of “do what you want when you want” but then what?
2 Peter 2:19 They promise freedom, but they themselves are slaves of sin and corruption. For you are a slave to whatever controls you.
Only Jesus can give you true freedom
John 10:10 The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.
While the god of freedom says there is life in choosing him, the only thing that will come out of it is death and destruction.
Only Jesus can come through on His promise of joy and freedom in the confinements of His will.
Are you saying no to some things out of fear of losing your freedom?
Are you trusting more in the god of freedom than in the God of your salvation?
What are some things you need to commit to because you know God is calling you to it?
